Cancelled my order without notifying me

I used to be a big fan of Bookbyte, even wrote them a nice review last year. Most of the books I needed were better priced at Chegg, but there were a couple I ordered from Bookbyte due to price/availability.Placed an order for two rentals and one purchase. Received UPS notification of delivery scheduled, received the books yesterday minus the one I purchased. Went online to check, status shows cancelled. They tell me the book was out of stock to they cancelled it and refunded my account. No notification, oh well, school starts Monday, either pay extra for expedited delivery from someone else or go to Barnes and Noble in person and pay their high price. Thanks for nothing Bookbyte. Wont' be back.

Dishonest processing with no recourse

I submitted some books a couple weeks ago. Bookbyte does not provide an easy way to track my order once it was mailed.

I just received a confirmation that they received my books, but that several from my order were not received. This is entirely false as I mailed all my books back together in one box, and included an invoice with the last of books as was recommended. The "missing" books also happen to the two with the highest price quote, and I honestly don't know that there is anything I can do about it.

They have the books, but are claiming I never sent them back. I absolutely do not recommend this company.

Customer Service & Return Policy

Never order a book on this website! Horrible customer service, only through via email which is ridiculous. Weird return policy. Does not provide shipping labels for returns (which you must pay for ) which is weird because other websites usually offer a shipping label for returns . Overall bad website. Stay off of this website, there is plenty of other websites that are more worth while for example chegg, bookrenter, neebo, bigwords etc. I also received an instructors edition of the book which is not what I ordered and since I have to pay for shipping I don't even want to return the book but now I have to because you can not sell an instructors edition so that doesn't leave many options for me. Does this sound fair ? I don't think so. First time customer and all I can say is that I'm disappointed in this company and will NEVER use it again. Thanks bookbyte for a horrible experience.

Dishonest Scam Artists

Lied about when they received my books for buyback. Lied about price they were willing to pay. Lied about when I would receive payment. In short, they are scam artists who do whatever they can to cheat you out of books and money. Never again will I deal with this company and I will encourage my students to buy their books somewhere else. I submitted several textbooks for buyback and they were paying the most for the books at the time. I had never dealt with them before, but reviews on certain sites claimed that they are a reputable company (probably employees submitting the reviews while on the clock). My books were received on a Friday as confirmed by USPS tracking. Bookbyte claims they didn't receive the books until the following Wednesday. Books were not actually "processed" until a week later; that's 12 days after they arrived. Payment arrived, via PayPal, 2 day later but for $125 less than the price I was quoted with no explanation. From now on Faculty Books will be getting all of my business much faster, more honest, and much less scammy!

Text Rentals Do Not Include Supplements

Why would any student intentionally rent a textbook without its academically-needed supplementation. I placed a rental order for a text that SHOULD HAVE included a software CD and flashcards with box. These are required for the class and are sold by the publisher with these items. Not so with Bookbyte. I'm stuck paying for the shipping both ways because they sent me a deficient product. I will NEVER buy from Bookbyte or any seller connected to them. I'm sick of being ripped off by these companies! They stick these little add-ons about 'textbooks only' and 'reading copy' and if you're not scouring each word on the screen, you'll miss it and end up buying something no one would want.

Oregon Hippies Will Rape You on Textbook Prices

So I make the mistake of trying to save money by renting a textbook from these clowns. The whole deal is automated so that what is probably a room full of stoned tree-huggers can pretty much jack the bejeesus out of students with minimal interaction. So I get this textbook. Three months later when its due back, i send it along with a few other textbooks on their "buyback" deal. This is basically where a textbook that costs as much as a White baby in Mexico has suddenly depreciated and BookByte buys it back at like a 95% discount. So I send the buyback books along with the rental book and the required printed documents. I even send them an email saying that my rental book is packed with 3 or 4 buyback books and provided both order numbers so there wouldn't be confusion. Wrong! Now these dirty hippies are trying to trying to bang me up for 78 bucks on top of the 45 I paid to rent this dumb book. BookByte definitely contributes to education, you learn the hard way about what some people will do for a buck.

Claim to have never received book.

I got a quote from bookbyte.com to sell 1 textbook for $22.10. I mailed the book with their shipping label about 1 week before Christmas. Now it's March 10 and I STILL don't have a check. When I contacted the company they said file a claim with the post office. I went to the post office, and they can't do anything. I have purchased many books from this company. My husband and myself are both in college. So, it looks like I'm out my $22. I will NEVER deal with these thieves again. Consumers.... Beware of this company.

Bookbyte didn't honor their buyback quote!

NEVER SELL YOUR BOOKS BACK TO THIS COMPANY! They quote you a price that's higher than other buyback stores then they only pay you half of what they quote.

They won't give me my books back either. Once they have your books they won't honor their buyback quote and will significantly reduce the price of the buyback. They claim that they reduce the cost for highlighting and writing but the books I sold to them weren't illegible. I have bought books from this company before and they had lots of writing and highlighting in them but they cost the same amount as other stores like textbooks.com.

This is a crooked company that will cheat you!

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy! Use textbooks.com or amazon.

They gave me exactly what they said they would for mine.

They say the books I sent them were lost - they received an empty box - which they sent pictures of. But it is obvious in the pictures that the end was cut off - no other damage to the box. Either someone with the Post office did it and is a thief or Book Bytes is the thief.

New website just launched to prevent these types of situations from happening to others. Check out TBBCompare.com. It is a textbook buyback comparison website that will help you find a good price and also find a good buyback company, to sell your books too.

Do this company every honor the buy back policy

Guest

Agreed. The same thing happened to me.

Everyone, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Let's all get together and give them a hard way to go.

Now that I think of it... the book I sent them recently was in great shape and packaged well but they took off about $5 of my quote; which isn't much, but I could've probably sent it to a different company and gotten more! :(

I'll have to keep this in mind when I'm selling books back!

Thanks for the reviews and sorry to hear about the bad customer service!

I regularly sell books via the internet. I sell mostly new/barely used books which I acquire.

Bookbyte has claimed not to have receive shipments from me, drastically reduced the quoted prices claiming various damages, including indications of use such as broken spines, writing and highlighting, and torn or missing pages -- this on new books which were still wrapped in plastic from the publishers, and they once claimed, with me like some of the other sellers here, that they received only 7 books when I sent 10 in the same box. My shipment was securely wrapped/taped I can assure you.

Guest

I have had a similar experience with Bookbyte. They reduced prices (four times) on books I sold them claiming damages such as highlighting and writing when the books had never been used.

They also claimed to have received only 3 books in a shipment of 6 books which were all shipped in the same box. I use A LOT of tape all around my boxes/shipments to ensure they cannot be accidentally opened.

Guest

I have sent several shipments to Bookbyte. I also ship to two other company, shipping about 30 boxes of books per year.

Out of six shipments to Bookbyte, they claimed damages to books (such as highlighting, bent pages/corners, or written in) that were still sealed in the mylar/saran that new books are wrapped in. One shipment they claimed to never have received, and the last shipment I sent them of 14 books all in one box, they claimed to have received only 8 of the 14 books even though they were sent all in one box. Moreover, while other companies process my shipments within 48 to 72 hours, Bookbyte has sat on my shipments for two weeks after delivery confirmation, with another 10 day average for payment.

This company is a scam.

I don't know how they have gotten an A+ rating through BBB. I was stunned!
